Back in Europe

Hmm.. it seems not long ago that I landed in Amsterdam.. actually to be precise it was slightly less than 2 months ago that I transited at Amsterdam Airport. Hmm.. nothing has changed even the the sky looks gloomy.. but of course May is not as cold as March.

Did some sightseeing today, walked around the central Amsterdam.. Snapped lots of pics of the canal and the buildings.. honestly? Not impressed.. I think I am just immune to the beauty of Europe already.

Miss home lots.. can't wait to go home.. but i am sure time will just zoooommmmmm pass since tomorrow is the start of conference. I am so excited to attend this conference to meet new and old acquaintances plus learning new things. Oh.. and also that this is my LAST long distance trip this year! YEAH!

Leaving again

Hmm.. yes, it is the second time I used this post title.. but this is exactly what I want to say..
I am having mixed feelings, well I always have mixed feelings before I leave for business trip. In a way I am very excited going to foreign countries, meeting new people and seeing different things. BUT I really am missing my hubby, TTB and mom a lot!!! Sigh.. especially now when I am also worried about my mother in law. Of course, there is nothing I can do, she has to go through her 4 sessions of chemo, and she will recover (YES! We just have to believe it and it will happened!).

This trip is also different because I am going for a long trip, in terms of duration (8 days) and distance (Amsterdam). Sigh.. so tired... but luckily this is the last long trip (so far to my knowledge) this year. Well, I have free wireless Internet access during the congress, perhaps I will do some blog entry during next 8 days.. but no promise ya!

Take care everyone! I am flying off tomorrow night.

Cancer

QUOTING Wikipedia:

"Cancer (medical term: malignant neoplasm) is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display the traits of uncontrolled growth (growth and division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not."

Apparently if you suffered from breast cancer before and if it is removed and cured there is still 20% chances that the cells can spread to other parts of the body. Recently we got a news that this is what happened to my mother in law... sigh.. The doctor said that it is very unfortunately that she is within the 20%.

What can you do when this happens to someone so dear to you?
My hubby's answer: " Hope for the best, prepare for the worst".

TTB: "I better update my blog"

Went to check out TTB's blog which i haven't done for some time since i am out of the country (still am)... and noticed that her latest blog title is "I better update my blog". HEE.. this prompt me to write a blog entry. Well... it is really nice to be back in London.. as a lot of my colleagues have tease me that i am actually "balik kampung" (back to hometown) when i come back to London. It is really strange to be back here which everything is so familiar yet i know i do not belong here.. not anymore.

Oh.. and i forgot that i have hay fever until we took a stroll at the Green Park and St James' park near Buckingham Palace (We were waiting for the changing of guards to start). This is such a familiar feeling (not a good one though).. but yet i have forgotten about it! Heh.. strange that i only have this when i am here in UK.. when i went to Japan i was ok. Hopefully on my next trip to Amsterdam i won't be having this problem. So i was forced to go all the way back to the hotel room to have anti-histamine before heading off to more sight seeing.

In case you are wondering.. i am not here for leisure! Came here to attend a conference and since we landed on Monday morning and the conference only starts on Tues, we had some time to walk around... do some shopping.. heh..

My hubby asked me to get him some books that he cannot find back home and hence on Monday i went all the way to Oxford street (stop by at Oxford station) and walked towards Bond Street as i know there is a book shop before reaching Bond Street station.. if i haven't mistaken it was Waterstone .. hmm.. or Borders? I can't remember.. and i won't know until i asked my hubby on Sat when i see him because THE SHOP IS NO LONGER THERE!!!!!!! As i walked approaching Bond street station... i actually stopped at this shop which was supposed to be 'my bookshop' but to my shock, it is a clothes shop!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uniclo (or something like that)!!!!
Humph.. so my effort to go all the way to my favourite hang out place was wasted!
But well.. yesterday i found out that just 2 mins from the conference hotel there is a Waterstone.. heh.. so still managed to get the books. NO PROBLEM-MO! ^_^

Random

Just read TTB's blog and now I also feel like doing a random post. It was a fruitful weekend, did some good deeds by visiting an orphanage and did some donation. On top of these TTB and I attended Hobbes' class and it was great! Hobbes always gives clear instructions even though you are not 1st timer. He seems to be able to give attention to everyone in class and you won't feel the class is messy. TTB and I attended another similar class a few days ago by another instructor and I was constantly in the "HUH?!" state... so I concluded that I won't attend any of such class if it is not Hobbes... OH DEAR... I hope Hobbes won't suddenly decide to retire!? This will be disaster. Anyway, I managed to increase my stamina and strength but unfortunately I will not be able to do such class for the next two weeks due to my busy travelling schedule. Will have to train up all over again when I return...

Travelling again?! Yes.. and.... sigh.. seems to be doing a lot of this since I started this new job. So.. how is my schedule like this time?

Port Dickson 7 to 10 May
London 11 to 17 May
Amsterdam 26May to 5June
Singapore 24 to 28 June

And after Singapore... NO MORE TRAVEL.. I hope.. oh no..i forgot!!! There IS a team building away weekend in July! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Well.. NO MORE TRAVEL after July! Hopefully.. heh ^_^

I am currently hooked on "The Bloodking" by Gail Z Martin.. since I have such a good imagination, I was so scared yesterday when I read the part when Tris went for his trial at the citadel of the sisterhood! I hope one day in the future they will make this chronicles into a movie like the Lord of the Rings!

Sigh.. so much to do (workwise) before all those trips! Anyway, better stop blogging and get some work done!

Facts or Fictions!?!?

Would like to share with you all some myths about healthy eating that I recently read from the newspaper.

1) Fresh vegetables are better than frozen
Actually this is not true. You can't keep fresh vegetables too long before they turn bad. Frozen veg can be more nutritious and fresher. This is especially the case for peas.

Hmm.. however, not all vegetables can be frozen, and the frozen process have to be right.

2) Alcohol is bad for you
A moderate amount can be good as alcohol like red wine can help prevent heart attacks. Flavonols are antioxidants that help make the blood less prone to clotting and so reduce the likelihood of heart disease. Antioxidants also help mop up damage free radicals known to cause cancer. Red wines contain higher levels of flavonols than whites, while red grape juice is just as effective. A stiff whisky also raise antioxidant levels.

Now.. don't just go and get yourself drunk because of the benefit of alcohol k? I think it should be written as "Not ALL alcohol is bad for you".

3) Washing fruits and vegetables carefully will rid the pesticides
Unless you specifically choose organic, most fruits and vegetables are likely been sprayed with chemicals. Although washing (or peeling or removing the rind) can remove post-harvest chemicals, residues of organophosphates and systemic chemicals are already in the flesh.

Gosh.. scary! But, we should still wash them carefully to remove post-harvest chemicals. If we can't get rid of it, at least we reduce it right?

The other myths are:
4) Children shouldn't eat too much fat
5) Drinking milk wards of osteoporosis
6) Products labelled "healthy" are better
7) Cholesterol is bad
8) Fat is bad

Well.. hee.. again, i am suddenly got attacked by lazy germs.. so.. let's leave the answers to these myths till next blog. Meanwhile, you can take a guess... heeeeeeeeeeeee
